Reclaimed Yew Goddess & Flower of Life Bookmark – Earth & Sacred Geometry
A handmade yew wood bookmark featuring a goddess-inspired figure holding a globe containing a Flower of Life geometric design.
The figure combines a contemporary tattoo-style aesthetic with symbolic imagery of the feminine, the Earth, creation and interconnectedness. Within the globe she holds is a geometric Flower of Life pattern, creating a visual connection between the Earth and the repeating forms of sacred geometry.
The Flower of Life is formed from overlapping circles arranged into a symmetrical geometric pattern and is widely used today within sacred geometry and spiritual artwork. It is often associated with themes such as creation, interconnectedness, balance and the repeating patterns found throughout nature.
Rather than representing one particular historical goddess, the figure is intended as a contemporary goddess-inspired design, leaving the symbolism open to personal interpretation.
Natural Materials
The bookmark is cut from yew wood and finished with a waxed polyester tassel incorporating a New Zealand Pāua shell bead. The natural grain and rich colouring of yew provide an earthy backdrop for the goddess and geometric design, while the naturally iridescent Pāua adds a flash of ocean colour.
Made from Reclaimed Timber
The yew used for this bookmark came from a woodturner’s mill offcuts box. Using reclaimed and leftover timber is an important part of my studio practice, allowing smaller pieces of beautiful wood to be transformed into useful objects rather than going to waste.
Natural yew varies considerably in colour, grain and markings, so every bookmark will have its own individual character.
