Sheppey Selenite – Natural Crystal Pigment or Ritual Ingredient
Hand-gathered from the wild and fossil-rich cliffs of the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, this raw piece of selenite (a form of gypsum crystal) is both beautiful and powerful in pigment and ritual use.
🌾 Origin & Earth Connection
The Isle of Sheppey is steeped in geological history, known for its ancient marine fossils and soft, chalky clays. This particular selenite carries the subtle shimmer of moonlight, paired with the grounded presence of the coastal earth it came from.
🌙 Metaphysical Properties
Selenite is widely known for its cleansing and clarifying properties. It is believed to promote mental clarity, spiritual connection, and energetic purification. Associated with the crown chakra, it’s often used in rituals of renewal, intention setting, and clearing stagnant energy.
🎨 Pigment Use
When crushed, selenite creates a soft, glowing white pigment. It can be used in:
Natural watercolours (when ground ultra-fine)
Ritual or symbolic body markings
Altar paints or sacred journal inks
Spellwork involving light, cleansing, or lunar energy
💡 Handling Notes
Selenite is a delicate mineral. It’s soft (Mohs 2), can be easily scratched, and should not be exposed to water, as it can dissolve over time. Handle gently and store in a dry place if not using immediately.
✨ Great for:
Artists making natural pigments and paints
Ritual crafters seeking a luminous earth element
Collectors of British-sourced natural materials
Crystal and mineral enthusiasts with a love of local stories
