A handmade incense holder created as a simple way to bring smoke, remembrance and gratitude into ritual practice.
This piece is made from recycled sweet chestnut wood, salvaged as scrap from a woodturner’s mill and given a new purpose rather than allowing useful timber to go to waste. The wood has been shaped and finished by hand, retaining the natural character and grain of the chestnut.
The inscription reflects the intention behind the piece: using incense and smoke as part of personal ritual to remember ancestors, welcome guides and honour those whose presence or influence continues to be meaningful.
The incense stick rests over a hand-carved limewood ash channel, allowing the falling ash to collect neatly within the carved recess.
Two small pieces of New Zealand Pāua shell have been set into the wood as decorative inlays and secured with UV resin, adding natural flashes of blue, green and iridescent colour.
