Red Oak Guide & Protection Incense Holder – Pāua Inlay & Hand-Carved Ash Channel

A handmade incense holder created as a simple way to bring smoke, gratitude and intention into ritual practice.

This piece is made from recycled red oak, salvaged as scrap from a woodturner’s mill and given a new purpose rather than allowing useful timber to go to waste. The wood has been shaped and finished by hand, allowing the natural grain and character of the oak to remain part of the finished piece.

Laser engraved along one side are the words:

“To those who guide us, protect us and watch over us we give thanks.”

The inscription reflects the intention behind the holder — using incense and smoke as a ritual offering of gratitude to those we believe guide, protect or accompany us.

The incense stick rests over a hand-carved limewood ash channel, allowing the ash to collect neatly within the carved recess.

Two small pieces of New Zealand Pāua shell have been set into the wood as decorative inlays and secured with UV resin, adding flashes of natural blue, green and iridescent colour.

Created as a meaningful addition to an altar, ritual space or personal spiritual practice, this piece brings together recycled timber, hand carving, natural shell and a simple expression of thanks.

Each piece of recycled wood has its own grain, colour, knots and natural markings, making every holder individual.

Safety: Always place incense on a stable, heat-resistant surface and never leave burning incense unattended. Keep away from children, pets and anything flammable.
