Preseli Bluestone & Avebury Sarsen Hei Toki Inspired Pendant – Handmade British Heritage Stone Jewellery

This handmade pendant has been individually carved from genuine Preseli Bluestone sourced from the Preseli Hills of Wales. Shaped into a modern Hei Toki inspired adze form, the piece has been carefully worked and finished by hand before receiving a central inlay of genuine Avebury Sarsen stone secured with UV resin.

Bringing together two iconic British prehistoric stones, this pendant combines geological history, archaeological significance, and contemporary craftsmanship in a single wearable piece.

About Preseli Bluestone

Preseli Bluestone originates from the Preseli Hills of Pembrokeshire, Wales. Geologically, it is primarily a spotted dolerite formed through ancient volcanic activity hundreds of millions of years ago.

The stone’s distinctive pale spotting comes from feldspar crystals that formed as the molten rock slowly cooled beneath the Earth’s surface.

Preseli Bluestone is internationally recognised due to its connection with Stonehenge, where many of the monument’s smaller standing stones have been traced back to the Preseli Hills.

About Avebury Sarsen

The central inlay contains genuine Avebury Sarsen, a silcrete-rich sandstone associated with one of Britain’s most remarkable prehistoric landscapes.

Sarsen stones were used extensively throughout southern Britain and form the largest standing stones at both Avebury and Stonehenge.

Created through the natural cementing of sand by silica-rich groundwater millions of years ago, sarsen is renowned for its strength, durability, and distinctive appearance.

A Meeting of Ancient Landscapes

This pendant brings together materials connected to two of Britain’s most celebrated prehistoric ceremonial landscapes.

The Preseli Hills are forever linked to the bluestones of Stonehenge, while Avebury remains home to the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world.

Together, these materials create a tangible connection to ancient landscapes that have inspired curiosity, folklore, and archaeological study for generations.

About the Hei Toki Form

The pendant is carved in a modern Hei Toki inspired adze style. Historically, toki (adzes) were important tools used throughout Polynesian cultures for carving, shaping, and creating.

Today, the form is widely appreciated as a symbol of craftsmanship, skill, determination, strength, and the ability to shape one’s own path.

This piece is a contemporary artistic interpretation inspired by the form rather than a traditional cultural artefact.

Symbolism and Spiritual Traditions

Within modern earth-based and spiritual traditions, both Preseli Bluestone and Sarsen are often associated with ancestral connection, endurance, grounding, and a relationship with the land.

Many people are drawn to these materials because of their genuine connection to ancient sites, historic landscapes, and the long story of human interaction with stone.
