Preseli Bluestone Drop Earrings – 925 Sterling Silver Wire Wrap
A pair of handcrafted Preseli Bluestone drop earrings, featuring naturally shaped Welsh stone set in 925 sterling silver wire.
Each stone has been shaped with an indentation around its edge, allowing the sterling silver wire to sit neatly within the natural profile. The silver is twisted at the top to secure the stone, with a small wire loop connecting it to the fish-hook earring findings.
The result is a simple but distinctive setting that allows the natural character of the stone to remain the focus, combining Welsh geological heritage with traditional silversmith-style wire wrapping.
Preseli Bluestone – Welsh Geological Heritage
Preseli Bluestone originates from the Preseli Hills, known in Welsh as Mynydd Preseli, in Pembrokeshire, south-west Wales.
The area is famous for its distinctive geological formations, including spotted dolerite and rhyolite, rocks formed through ancient volcanic processes. These stones have a characteristic blue-grey appearance, particularly when freshly broken or wet.
Preseli is especially significant in British prehistoric archaeology because several types of stone from this region were transported more than 140 miles to Salisbury Plain to become part of Stonehenge.
The Stonehenge Connection
The smaller standing stones at Stonehenge are collectively known as bluestones. Geological research has traced several of these stones back to specific locations within the Preseli Hills.
Archaeological excavations at Carn Goedog and Craig Rhos-y-felin have uncovered evidence of Neolithic quarrying, including tools and remains associated with the extraction of these enormous stones.
The bluestones were transported to Salisbury Plain approximately 5,000 years ago, during the Neolithic period. Their journey represents an extraordinary feat of prehistoric organisation, engineering and human endeavour.
Some archaeological interpretations suggest that the stones may have held particular significance to the communities who moved them, although exactly why they were chosen remains a subject of research and debate.
Wearing Preseli Bluestone offers a small, tangible connection to this remarkable landscape and one of Britain’s most recognisable prehistoric monuments.
Spiritual Meaning & Symbolism
In contemporary earth-based spirituality and crystal practices, Preseli Bluestone can be appreciated for its associations with:
* Ancestral connection: A symbolic link to ancient landscapes, prehistoric communities and the generations who came before us.
* Grounding and stability: Its enduring geological nature makes it a meaningful focus for connecting with the earth and finding steadiness.
* Ancient wisdom: Its association with prehistoric monuments invites reflection on history, memory and the knowledge carried through generations.
* Sacred places: The connection with Stonehenge and the Preseli landscape makes it a fitting material for those drawn to ancient sites and the spiritual significance of place.
* Endurance and continuity: A reminder of the lasting relationship between people, landscape and the natural world.
These are contemporary spiritual interpretations rather than documented beliefs of the Neolithic people who quarried and transported the original bluestones.
Sterling Silver Setting
Each stone is individually wrapped using 925 sterling silver wire, fitted into the indentation around its edge. The wire is twisted at the top to secure the stone and finished with a connecting loop.
The earrings are suspended from fish-hook findings, allowing them to hang freely and show off the natural shape and colour of the stone.
Allergy-friendly options: The fish-hook findings can be changed on request to accommodate different metal preferences and sensitivities. Please contact me before ordering to discuss alternative findings.

Care
Store your earrings separately to protect the silver and stone from scratches. Avoid prolonged contact with perfumes, cleaning products and harsh chemicals. Sterling silver can naturally tarnish over time and can be gently cleaned with a suitable silver polishing cloth.
A little piece of ancient Welsh geological heritage, wrapped in sterling silver and transformed into wearable jewellery — connecting the landscapes of Pembrokeshire with the remarkable prehistoric story of Stonehenge.
