Large New Zealand freshwater pink mussel shell, naturally tumbled and polished to reveal its delicate pearlescent sheen. Each piece is unique, with natural curves, points, and textures shaped by the shell’s journey through rivers and time. The front displays the soft, pearly glow, while the back remains in its natural state. Drilled for use as a pendant, each shell is sent at random from the batch.
Spiritual & Cultural Significance:
Mussel shells are revered in many traditions for their connection to the water element, emotional balance, and intuitive energy. They are used in rituals, spellwork, and offerings, bringing protection, emotional healing, and a sense of calm.
Scientific & Geological Information:
• Material: Bivalve mollusc shell
• Composition: Primarily calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) in the form of aragonite, with minor organic matrices and trace minerals
• Crystal Structure: Orthorhombic (aragonite)
• Origin: New Zealand freshwater rivers and lakes
Creative & Practical Uses:
• Jewelry: Pendants, charm pieces, earrings, or inlay work
• Art & Craft: Resin embedding, mixed media, and decorative projects
• Spiritual & Ritual: Spell pouches, altar offerings, or water-based ceremonies
Care Guide:
• Wipe gently with a soft cloth to maintain the natural pearlescent shine
• A light application of natural oil enhances the lustre and helps prevent drying
• For a high-gloss, polished finish, a resin polishing compound can be used
• Keep away from harsh chemicals or prolonged water exposure to protect the shell’s surface
Please Note:
• Each piece is naturally formed; variations in size, shape, and colour are part of its unique charm
These pendants are naturally strong but nacre can be brittle if dropped on hard surfaces — treat them with the same care you would give to pearls or other nacre-based jewellery.
Each pendant is unique, and the ones pictured in the group photo are part of a larger batch. If you have your eye on a particular piece, please get in touch when placing your order and I’ll do my best to reserve it for you. Otherwise, one will be selected at random from the batch.
