Born from the riverbeds and alpine valleys of Aotearoa, this Pounamu greenstone pendant merges two of the most enduring Māori forms — the Hei Toki (adze) and the Pikorua (infinity twist) — into one unified design.

The outer Hei Toki represents strength, authority, and determination, while the inner Pikorua weaves the energy of connection, balance, and eternity. Together, they embody the dual nature of human spirit — power with purpose, strength with compassion, and individuality woven through unity.

This piece is fully Toki-wrapped, carved and bound by hand to honour both form and material. It’s a statement piece that carries mana — the presence of the stone, the craft, and the intention behind it.

🕊️ Cultural & Spiritual Significance

In Māori tradition:
• The Hei Toki was once the adze blade used by chiefs and master carvers — a symbol of wisdom, skill, and leadership.
• The Pikorua, or double twist, represents the eternal bond between people, whether lovers, friends, or ancestors — connections that bend and stretch but never break.

Together, these two forms remind us that true strength lies not just in standing alone, but in how we connect, create, and endure together.

Pounamu itself is a taonga (treasure) in Māori culture — gifted to protect, to remember, and to carry the spirit of the giver and wearer alike.

⚒️ Craft & Material

• Hand-carved from authentic New Zealand Pounamu (greenstone)
• Mixed Hei Toki / Pikorua hybrid form — designed for balance and movement
• Traditional Toki binding for strength and symbolism
• Polished to a deep satin glow to reveal the natural colour variation of the stone
• Statement-sized pendant — presence and weight without heaviness
• Cord-ready design for easy wear

🌍 Geology & Science

Pounamu (Nephrite Jade – Ca₂(Mg,Fe)₅Si₈O₂₂(OH)₂)
• Mineral Group: Amphibole (Actinolite–Tremolite series)
• Crystal System: Monoclinic
• Mohs Hardness: 6–6.5
• Specific Gravity: ~2.95
• Lustre: Waxy to vitreous
• Structure: Dense interlocking fibrous crystals — giving exceptional toughness

New Zealand’s nephrite jade forms under intense metamorphic pressure where serpentinised ultramafic rocks meet silica-rich fluids — the result: one of the toughest natural stones on Earth.

Each vein of Pounamu has its own hue and grain — this piece carries a rich mid-to-dark green, sometimes showing lighter inclusions or brecciated texture, the mark of geological life beneath the Southern Alps.

🔮 Metaphysical & Energetic Qualities

Pounamu is revered as a stone of protection, healing, and spiritual strength. It anchors energy to the Earth while promoting emotional harmony and patience.
In combination with the Hei Toki’s leadership and the Pikorua’s connection, this pendant becomes a talisman of balanced power — ideal for those walking between worlds, holding space for both strength and empathy.
