This trapezoid-shaped pendant is carved from Fenland bog oak and set with a central inlay of rainbow Pāua shell chips. The form is clean and modern, while the materials carry deep ancestral and elemental histories.

Bog oak, preserved for thousands of years in peat wetlands, holds a quiet, grounding presence. In contrast, the pāua shell inlay catches the light with flashes of blues, greens, and violets — a reminder of moving water, shoreline, and living seas.

Together, they create a piece that balances stillness and motion, land and ocean, ancient and alive.

Materials & Science

Fenland Bog Oak

  • Sub-fossil oak preserved in peat for centuries to millennia
  • Darkened by tannins and mineral interaction (iron, manganese)
  • Dense, durable, and naturally stabilised by time

Rainbow Pāua Shell (Haliotis iris)

  • Composed primarily of calcium carbonate (aragonite)
  • Iridescence created by microscopic layered crystal structure
  • Ethically sourced shell chips, reclaimed from carving offcuts
