Fenland Bog Oak and New Zealand Swamp Kauri Roimata Pendant – Ancient Wood Talisman of Earth, Time, and Renewal
Born from the meeting of two ancient lands, this handcrafted roimata pendant unites Fenland bog oak from Britain with New Zealand swamp kauri — timbers preserved for millennia beneath peat and earth. The piece is shaped in the traditional roimata (teardrop) form, symbolising release, empathy, and connection through time.
The design places a stripe of golden kauri at the heart, sandwiched between deep, charcoal-black bog oak — a balance of light and dark, life and preservation. Each layer has been joined, shaped, and polished by hand to reveal the contrast in tone and texture, creating a pendant that feels both grounded and timeless.

Sustainability & Process
Both materials are ethically sourced ancient woods:
• Fenland Bog Oak – English oak naturally preserved in peat for 3,000–5,000 years, recovered from the Fens during land drainage.
• Swamp Kauri – subfossil kauri wood from New Zealand, buried and preserved in anaerobic clay for up to 45,000 years.
Each is stabilised and polished by hand, with a natural wax finish to enhance the organic contrast. No dyes, stains, or chemical sealants — only careful craftsmanship and respect for history.

Symbolism & Spirit
In Māori culture, the roimata represents healing and emotional flow — the release that leads to renewal. Combined with these two ancient timbers, the pendant becomes a talisman of deep-time wisdom and ancestral connection.
Bog oak holds the stillness of the earth — grounding, protective, and enduring. Swamp kauri carries the energy of creation and memory, often regarded as a link between the living world and the ancestors. Together, they symbolise the union of land and time, a conversation between continents, and the continuity of life.
Perfect for spiritual wear, ancestral practice, or as a statement piece that quietly tells the story of two worlds meeting in harmony.

Geology & Material Science
• Fenland Bog Oak (Quercus robur): English oak preserved anaerobically in peat bogs; carbon-dated to 3,000–5,000 years old. Dense and darkened by tannins reacting with iron compounds in the soil.
• Swamp Kauri (Agathis australis): New Zealand conifer preserved in wet clay beds for 10,000–45,000 years; pale golden tone, fine grain, density ~560 kg/m³.
Both timbers are stable, workable, and polished to a natural satin sheen.
