This piece is cherry tree copal — a pouch of large chunks, naturally hardened tree sap gathered from a domestic cherry tree garden. While often grouped under the umbrella of “amber,” this material is younger and more fragile than true fossilised amber, which makes it unsuitable for jewellery carving in my work. Originally acquired for jewellery experimentation, the material proved too brittle for carving, rather than forcing it into something it doesn’t want to be, I’ve chosen to honour it so it’s been respectfully redirected into my witchy / metaphysical materials range, where it truly belongs.

Copal carries the living memory of the tree. It forms as sap — the tree’s own healing response — slowly hardening while still holding organic warmth, scent, and energy. Unlike fossil amber, copal sits between states: not fully ancient, not fully alive. That liminal quality makes it especially suited to threshold work, intention setting, and transitional rituals. Unlike ancient Baltic amber, copal retains a more immediate, vibrant energy, often associated with cleansing, transition, and communication between realms.

Spiritual & Metaphysical Uses
Amber and copal have been used across cultures for centuries as:
• A purifier of space and energy
• A resin of solar warmth, protection, and vitality
• A bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds

🌸 Cherry Tree Symbolism
Cherry trees have long been associated with:
• Renewal and cycles (blossom → fruit → rest)
• Gentle strength and impermanence
• Heart energy, love, and emotional healing
• Ancestral domestic magic — garden-grown, lived-with trees rather than wild forest giants

Cherry copal carries a softer, more personal frequency than forest resins. It’s ideal for home-based rituals, grief work, self-love practices, and spells tied to growth, healing, and seasonal change.

🔥 Spiritual & Ritual Uses
• Altar offering (especially spring, renewal, or ancestor altars)
• Spell jars and sachets
• Intention-setting rituals
• Burned gently as resin incense (test carefully — copal is flammable and should be used with charcoal and supervision)
• Meditation or grounding aid
• Craft or mixed-media spiritual work

Because this material was sourced from a real garden tree, it carries a very human, rooted energy — not ceremonial perfection, but honest, lived-in magic.

⚠️ Important Notes
• This copal is brittle and may crack or crumble if handled roughly
• Not suitable for jewellery or heavy wear
• Not for ingestion
• Natural variations, inclusions, and surface marks are part of its character

This is a material for those who appreciate imperfect, meaningful remnants — sap that once flowed, hardened by time, now offered for intentional use rather than waste.
