Ancestor of Te Papa in Pink is part of my “Illustrations of my travels” range, a collection drawn from photographs I took while backpacking.
Using my own photography as a reference, I created this interpretation of a Māori ancestor sculpture digitally in Procreate. The artwork reflects my personal encounter with the sculpture at Te Papa and the way travel continues to inform my creative work.
As a gesture of appreciation, I sent Te Papa original copies of my Māori prints for the museum to use as it wished. My illustrations are my own response to the sculptures I photographed, rather than an account of the ancestors’ identities or cultural meanings.
For home collectors and art consultants selecting work for hospitality, residential or other interiors, this print offers a piece with a personal travel story, whether displayed individually or alongside other works from the range.
Printing and production
Printed on my behalf by Teemill, which I chose for its environmentally focused approach to production.
