Powdered Lapis Lazuli Pigment – Hand-Ground from Afghan Stone Offcuts | For Inlay, Resin, Ritual & Art
Bring timeless beauty and mysticism into your creative work with this Powdered Lapis Lazuli Pigment, carefully reclaimed from offcuts in my studio. These fragments were too delicate or irregular for jewellery-making but still far too precious to waste. Now transformed into a vibrant, hand-ground pigment, they offer rich colour and spiritual depth for your art, inlay work, or ritual practice.
This batch is sourced from Afghanistan, the ancient and most celebrated origin of lapis lazuli, known for producing the deepest, most intense royal blues with flecks of gold (pyrite) and soft veins of white calcite.
Scientific Composition:
Primary Mineral: Lazurite (a feldspathoid silicate)
Other Common Inclusions: Pyrite (FeS₂), Calcite (CaCO₃), Sodalite
Chemical Formula (Lazurite): (Na,Ca)₈(AlSiO₄)₆(S,SO₄,Cl)₂
Mohs Hardness: ~5–5.5
Colour: Rich ultramarine blue, often with golden metallic flecks and white veining
Structure: Polymineral rock, not a single crystal – making every powdered batch beautifully unique
Spiritual Symbolism & Uses:
Wisdom & Inner Vision: Used by the ancient Egyptians, Sumerians, and many other cultures, lapis lazuli is a stone of truth, insight, and spiritual awareness. It supports connection to higher realms and intuitive understanding.
Throat & Third Eye Chakra Activation: Assists with communication, inner clarity, and enhancing psychic vision.
Protection & Power: Often regarded as a stone of royalty, lapis was believed to ward off the evil eye and connect its wearer to divine power and guidance.
Creativity & Expression: A muse’s stone, it’s perfect for artists, writers, or spiritual practitioners wanting to unlock creativity while staying grounded in purpose.
A Legacy of Artistry:
Historically, powdered lapis lazuli was ground into ultramarine, one of the most prized and expensive pigments in classical art. Used by Renaissance masters like Michelangelo and Vermeer, it was reserved for the most sacred subjects—like the robes of the Virgin Mary—due to its intense, celestial blue. By including lapis in your work, you're not only connecting with ancient earth energies, but also honouring a legacy of artistic reverence that spans centuries.
Ideal For:
Resin art, sacred tools, or pigment-based inlay
Decorating altar pieces or spiritual items
Spellwork and ritual blends tied to wisdom, truth, or protection
Symbolic artwork, calligraphy, and natural paintmaking
Eco-conscious artists reclaiming every mineral with purpose
