Haast Pass Serpentine & Rainbow Pāua Shell Pendant | Trapezoid Talisman with UV Resin Inlay
This hand-carved pendant brings together two of Aotearoa’s most iconic natural materials: ancient Haast Pass serpentine and vibrant rainbow pāua shell. The trapezoid form offers a strong, grounded silhouette, while the iridescent pāua inlay — set securely with clear UV resin — dances with light, revealing shimmering hues of blue, green, and violet.
Sourced from the rugged landscapes of Haast Pass on New Zealand’s South Island, the serpentine stone (chemical composition: (Mg,Fe)₃Si₂O₅(OH)₄) is rich in iron and magnesium, formed through deep geological processes. It is known for its earthy green hues and resilience — a stone of grounding, protection, and connection to Papatuanuku, the Earth Mother.
The pāua shell, a treasure of the sea, is revered in Māori culture as a taonga (treasure). Symbolically, it represents beauty born of resilience, the ever-changing tides of emotion, and the spiritual link between land and ocean. It is often used to signify the eyes of ancestors watching over and guiding the living.
Spiritual & Cultural Resonance
The union of pāua and serpentine creates a balance of elemental energy: water and earth, emotion and strength, the fluid and the stable. The trapezoid shape grounds the piece even further — a symbol of stability, foundation, and personal power. This pendant is a powerful talisman for those walking between worlds, seeking connection to land, sea, and self.
Wear it as:
・A statement of your connection to Aotearoa
・A grounding piece for daily strength and spiritual clarity
・A unique handmade gift with deep symbolic meaning
